Summer Bible Study: The Book of Revelation
led by David Brown, retired United Methodist Pastor from the MN Conference
Thursdays (some Wednesdays) at 7:00pm in the parlor (room just past the office)
Dates: Wednesday, June 18 Thursday, June 26 Thursday, July 3
Where do you turn when things look bleak, you have run out of hope, and come to the end of your rope? The Revelation of John, of course!
Pastor David Brown will be leading a new Bible study on the book of Revelation at 7pm in the parlor and continuing on most Thursdays (sometimes Wednesdays) through the summer.
You can expect lively conversation, different understandings of the text than what you have heard or read, and encouragement to persevere through difficult days. Feel free to join in at any time! If you have questions, please contact Kristi in the church office.
Piece Corps Quilting Group
We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. downstairs in our fellowship hall.
The UMC Piece Corps Quilters is a small-but-mighty group of volunteers from our church that make beautiful quilts that are donated to Westfields Hospital and Grace Place Transitional Shelter. You may have recently seen the finished quilts on Sundays, displayed over the pews, for our Quilt Blessing during worship. After the blessing, Laurel Olson delivers the quilts to Westfields and Grace Place.
Quilts donated to Westfields Hospital, “Dignity Quilts”, are used by the staff and carefully draped over the hospital transport stretcher of recently deceased patients before they are moved from their room and transported to the morgue or funeral home. This compassionate long-standing practice provides honor to the deceased and comfort to loved-ones, family members and hospital staff at an especially vulnerable and raw time of grief and loss. The quilts provide meaning and honor for surviving family members and symbolize the compassion and caring that we have for one another.
At Grace Place transitional shelter, the quilts are given to people staying at the shelter, to people passing through and to people as they move out of the shelter onto their next stage of life.
Piece Corps relies solely on donations from our congregation and the community. Most of the fabric they use is donated from people in our community. Some expenses they have include batting and the occasional purchase of fabric. If you have fabric at home that you would like to donate, please contact Carolyn Craig or Laurel Olson to see if it’s something that they can use. If you would like to make a monetary donation to the group, please see Kristi in the church office or simply put your donation in the offering basket on Sundays (marked “Piece Corps”). New quilters are always welcome! Feel free to stop by and see what they’re working on. Please contact Laurel Olson (210-382-8855) or Carolyn Craig at (715-246-6242) with any questions.
